In Times of Tragedy, A Dog Showed Us The True Meaning of a Friend

I just read a news article where a dog refuses to leave behind another dog that has been winded and disoriented due to the Earthquake and the Tsunami that hit Japan. As I slowly read the article it made my eyes tear up and I felt like I wanted to rescue those dogs. It is a heartwarming picture to see that a dog is protecting his friend amidst the tragedy around him. He stayed loyal beside his friend when others would have left.

In times of tragedy humans are not the only one who can show amazing courage and loyalty but also man’s best friend: dogs. The article made me realize how we should overcome our fears and simply try to help those who are need. A wise man once told me that “courage is not acting without fear, it is acting despite of fear “.  It is important to make sure that as a dog stood beside his friend , may we also do so to our friends who are in need. That dog showed us what it takes to be a friend.

You can watch the video below:

Here is the translation of the conversation in video:

We are in Arahama area. Looks like there is a dog. There is a dog. He looks tired and dirty. He must have been caught in the tsunami. He looks very dirty.

He has a collar. He must be someone’s pet. He has a silver collar. He is shaking. He seems very afraid.

Oh, there is another dog. I wonder if he is dead.

Where?

Right there. There is another dog right next to the one sitting down. He is not moving. I wonder. I wonder if he is alright.

The dog is protecting him.

Yes. He is protecting the dog. That is why he did not want us to approach them. He was trying to keep us at bay.

I can’t watch this. This is a very difficult to watch.

Oh. Look. He is moving. He is alive. I am so happy to see that he is alive.

Yes! Yes! He is alive.

He looks to be weakened. We need to them to be rescued soon. We really want them rescued soon.

Oh good. He’s getting up.

It is simply amazing how they survived the tremendous earthquake and tsunami. It’s just amazing that they survived through this all tragedy.

HERE’S AN UPDATE: CNN and the UK Telegraph have both reported that the dogs shown in the video has been rescued, and are both receiving veterinary care which is good news, The more seriously wounded dog is at a clinic in the city of Mito, while the protective spaniel-type dog is receiving care at a shelter in the same town.

That dog in the video showed us what the real meaning of being a friend is especially in times of trouble.
