Working overseas is a whole new adventure and challenge. An opportunity to, provide well for your family — your dream home, your children’s education, a small Business and other luxuries to lead a comfortable life.


Before you pack your bags and set off for your new adventure, here are some ofw tips to guide you:


Overseas Workers and migrants must prepare for the country that they are going to:


Firstly, and most importantly, is the issue of language. If you are going to a country where the language is different, try to learn a few words and phrases to enable you to carry a basic conversation with those that you will be working with. Familiarize yourself also with the customs and traditions of the country.


Things an overseas worker or ofw must prepare prior to departure:


Passport, plane ticket, itinerary.

Legal documents such as overseas employment certificate (OEC), visa,

Validated Agency Worker’s Agreement and/or Validated Employment Contract, PDOS certificate.

Complete contact numbers and addresses of your relatives; employer’s contact details and emergency numbers in the country you are going to.


Establish yourself once you are out there:

Once you have arrived at your placement, it is best to familiarize yourself with the local transport and information services, Filipino communities, a grocery store and other services around your area.

It is important that you make yourself a part of society. You will benefit greatly by reading local newspapers, making an effort with your neighbours and work colleagues. Try also to participate in local groups or activities out of office hours.

Lastly, don’t hesitate to ask for help or support. There are a lot people in your community especially ofw communities that can share their knowledge and experiences.  These ofw tips can help you in your journey.
